School Health Leadership Councils

CSHP

A Coordinated School Health Program is an effective system designed to connect health with education. This coordinated approach to school health improves students' health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools working together. Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) supports the establishment and ongoing activities of School Health Leadership Councils that utilize the coordinated approach to school health. HCCA currently provides support to School Health Leadership Councils in the following school districts

  •    Monmouth Schools
  •    RSU 38 (Maranacook Area Schools)


School Health Leadership Councils have chosen from a variety of initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of students and staff. Among them:

  • Conduct the School Health Index health assessment to prioritize wellness Tobacco-Free School Signinitiatives
  • Review and enhance school tobacco use policy to meet Partnership for a Tobacco Free Maine guidelines and receive free tobacco-free campus signage
  • Create and promote indoor and outdoor walking opportunities on school Healthy Maine Walkscampuses for staff, students, and community members
