Help The Community of Augusta Reduce Its Prescription Drug Misuse Problem:

A workshop has been held this month to promote public awareness and action on the 8 things EVERYONE can do to help reduce this problem.  This 3.5 hour training is for local people who want to learn about these 8 actions—and prepare to share them with 10 or more friends, family members, professional colleagues, students, and/or clients.  The training is suitable for both people who encounter this issue in their professional work and in their private life in the community

Event details: City Center Plaza, 16 Cony St., Monday February 27, 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  The content will be presented by the MaineGeneral Overdose Prevention Project and the Southern Kennebec Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP).  Lead trainer:  Jayne Harper.  The event is being co-sponsored by the Augusta Police Department.

Ongoing Opportunities for You to Obtain Grants from HCCA and/or Volunteer in the Community

Youth Voices Program: Small Grants For Host Organizations: The Youth Voices program is a proven strategy for: a) identifying, organizing and supporting youth who choose not to use tobacco, alcohol or other drugs, and b) help them take action to prevent tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. HCCA wants to expand the involvement of youth in tobacco, alcohol or other drug use prevention, and is offering small grants ($1800 each) to host organizations that want to create new or sustain existing Youth Voices programs. Funding supports a stipend for an adult leader and out-of-pocket program expenses. For more information, contact: Renee Page rpage@mcd.org; 557-2945
