Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) is a coalition of local people who work locally to improve the health and quality of life in our communities.*

To convene people, organizations and communities
to collaborate on quality of life and public health issues.

Happy, thriving, interconnected people, organizations, and communities
who are empowered to improve their quality of life.
Making connections
HCCA brings people together to share ideas, make plans and take action to create and support healthy communities through:
- Sharing information
- Holding public meetings
- Staffing workgroups
- Hosting community forums
- Providing technical assistance to schools and worksites
- Assessing community health status, strengths and needs
Improving Lives
HCCA is the local
Healthy Maine Partnership working with individuals and organizations and state partners to:
- Reduce tobacco use and exposure
- Increase physical activity
- Improve nutrition
- Prevent alcohol and drug abuse
- Link people to health screenings and community resources to prevent and reduce the impact of chronic diseases
A healthy community is one that provides for the basic needs of all its members. It is a place where people come together to make the community better for themselves and their neighbors. It is also a process in which local people work together on local issues they care about.
Becoming part of the Maine's New Public Health Infrastructure
HCCA is also part of a statewide system of Comprehensive Community Health Coalitions (
CCHC) throughout Maine that are:

* Our Local Service Area (LSA) includes the Southern Kennebec County towns of Augusta, Chelsea, Farmingdale, Fayette, Gardiner, Hallowell, Litchfield, Manchester, Monmouth, Mount Vernon, Pittston, Randolph, Readfield, Vienna, West Gardiner, Wayne, Windsor, Winthrop, and sometimes Richmond.
