ASAP is a substance abuse prevention coalition that works to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and prescription drugs by youth across southern Kennebec County. Community leaders and local organizations concerned about substance abuse issues have come together to take planned, evidence-based action, and document the results of its efforts. The group is currently completing its first year of funding through the federal Drug Free Communities (DFC) program, and serves the following school districts:

Each of the separate school systems above is served by its own law enforcement agency. Some school systems serve several towns, e.g., Maranacook: 4; Gardiner: 4; Hall-Dale: 2.
A) Plan and implement the strategies that are best done on
a coalition-wide basis, e.g., Responsible Beverage Server trainings
B) Facilitate the sharing of resources across communities
to increase the power and impact of individual community efforts
C) Perform administrative and reporting functions as required by the Drug Free
Communities (DFC) grant
D) Plan and implement actions that will change the rules and norms that exist in individual communities related to substance use and abuse
